Grownups // 2023/02/24

Grownups are the worst. Grownups lack imagination (play) and rely on metrics and the opinions of others to dictate their feelings.

Children are free. Children don’t care about what other people think, or how practical something may or may not be, or how others think about them.

Because of this, children make art that is raw, unencumbered, profound.

The worst thing someone can say about your work is that it’s ‘boring’. So then why do you try so hard to make work that looks like everybody else’s?

All the things you claim you’re striving for - originality, a voice, profundity - a child doesn’t have to strive to be. They simply are.

As Picasso reminds us, it only takes years to paint like a master, but a lifetime to draw like a child.
